Photograph of Indian painting at Mission San Gabriel brought in from Mission San Fernando depicting the "Steps of the Cross," ca.1900. Eleven men are pictured, some with spears, four of which are attending to a large cross. Jesus, capped with a crown of thorns, carries the cross at its top and is lead by a man in embroidered clothing who is holding a rope which is tied around Jesus' neck. Above and to the left of this, partially obscured by the crowd, a man stands next to a horse playing a bugle. To the extreme right some tower-like architecture is pictured
